What is the latest time I can book a locum orthoptist?
Booking can be at the last minute, but you may not be guaranteed orthoptic help if the locum orthoptists are already scheduled beforehand.
What is the minimum number of hours for the orthoptic locum help?
There is no minimum number of hours, but the fee for a locum shift is charged at a minimum of 4 hours.
Is there any additional fees for the locum service?
No
Do I have to contribute to the locum orthoptist's superannuation?
No
Download the Terms & Conditions here.
If I cancel my booking, is there any charges?
There is a late cancellation fee of $100 if the booking is cancelled within 48 hours or 2 working days from the booked date.
Do I have to cover workers compensation for the locum orthoptist?
A 'deemed worker' can include contractors under labour hire service arrangements. Hence, by law, your WorkCover should cover our locum orthoptist on-site. However, the locum orthoptist is not covered by you if the orthoptist gets injured while travelling to and from your clinic.
If I like a locum orthoptist during the locum shift, can I hire that orthoptist on a permanent basis?
Yes, but there will be a transfer/recruitment fee based on the experience of the orthoptist. Poaching is undesirable and immoral.

Recruitment

For eye clinics

How much is the recruitment fee?
Recruitment fee is dependent on the orthoptist's experience. We don't follow the fee trend like the recruitment agency. We want our recruitment fee to be affordable for you, and at the same time we want to ensure that you hire the right person for your clinic.
What is the recruitment process?
To begin the recruitment process, a short list of best candidates for the position is given to you. Then the best candidates are placed on a few locum shift(s) where you observe their work ethics and how well they get along with your staff. This is the best way to help you hire the right person.

For orthoptists

If you are an orthoptist and like to join the locum service, email your details and resume to info@orthopticlocum.com.au and we will contact you promptly.
What can I benefit from being a locum orthoptist with you?
You get a chance to work with other orthoptists and doctors, as well as an opportunity use other diagnostic technologies which you have not used before. For new graduates, you will be provided with mentorship and further upskilling to ensure you become a competent orthoptist.

In-service training

What in-service training do you offer?
We have a wide range of clinical modules such as slit lamp techniques, cataract work-up and postop care, and many more that are essential in clinical practice. We can tailor the in-service training that is relevant to your practice.
Where is the in-service training conducted?
It can be conducted on-site as a group or one-on-one. However, it can be done online via video link depending on what training module you choose.
Who can do the in-service training?
Anyone can do the training, even if you want to be an ophthalmic technician or if you are an orthoptist who need upskilling.
How much is the in-service training?
The cost of the in-service training is dependent on which clinical module you want. Contact us on info@orthopticlocum.com.au for more information.
